About Fr Patrick Primeaux, S.M.
Fr Patrick Primeaux, S.M. (1947–2008) is one of the original founders of the International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference. Fr Primeaux received a B.A. in education from University of Southwestern Louisiana; and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Theology from The University of St. Michael's College. He served 31 years as a Marist priest and was a Professor of Theology and Business Ethics at St. John's University in New York. In 2003, Fr Primeaux was appointed Chair of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at St. John's. He published several books and numerous articles in both Catholic and business journals, including The Priest, Review for Religious, Church, as well as The Journal of Business Ethics, Review of Business, and The Journal of Ministry, Marketing & Management. One of his books bore the remarkable title: The Moral Passion of Bruce Springsteen (San Francisco: 1996), and it attracted wide interest and comment for incorporating Bruce Springsteen's music into business ethics teaching. Two other books, Profit Maximization: The Ethical Mandate of Business (1995) and Reinterpreting the American Dream: Persons and Ethics (2000) were very well received. Through his scholarship and teaching, he impacted generations of business ethicists. Finally, Fr. Primeaux was described by friends as "deeply humble, who modeled gratitude, respect and patience to his students, colleagues, friends and family" (Pava, 2012). The Conference continues to honor his contributions to IVBEC and the field of ethics through this award.
